Segment  3

Segment Limits

Segment 3 is the longest segment in the OTTR and the least populated.  It includes all of the main river channel from the Canadian Pacific Railroad Bridge upstream to MnDOT SH78 Bridge/Rush Lake Dam.

To identify specific issues in Segment 3 and facilitate segment ownership, Segment 3 has been broken into 3 Sub-Segments.

Segment 3a

Main River Channel from CPRR Bridge to Lake McGowan Outlet (~ 5500 LF)
Canal #7 (~ 900 LF)
Canal #8 (~ 3200 LF)

Segment 3b

Main River Channel in Lake McGowan (~2000 LF)
Lake McGowan iii. Canal #9 (~ 1500 LF)

Segment 3c

Lake McGowan inlet to MNDOT SH78 Bridge (~ 2000 LF)

Properties

There are 38 (911) addresses in Segment 3:

• 21 are in Sub-Segment 3a
• 8 are in Sub-Segment 3b
• 9 are in Sub-Segment 3c

Primary Issues

OTRM members have identified 4 primary issues in Segment 3.

1. With the exception of early spring, all terminal canals have extreme vegetation growth which does not allow for any watercraft navigation from properties on said canals to the main river channel.

2. Canal #7 is a through canal, is very shallow, has very little current and has an excess of vegetative growth.

3. Segment 3b is overgrown with vegetation and does not allow for watercraft traffic into Lake McGowan from the rest of Otter Tail River.

4. Segment 3c is very shallow and does not allow for watercraft traffic from, restricting property access from Lake McGowan to SH78 Bridge
